When the world was young, the power of magic ruled—and the Elfstones warded the race of Elves and their lands, keeping evil at bay. But when an Elven girl fell hopelessly in love with a Darkling boy of the Void, he carried away more than her heart.
Thousands of years later, tumultuous times are upon the world now known as the Four Lands. Users of magic are in conflict with proponents of science. Elves have distanced their society from the other races. The dwindling Druid order and its teachings are threatened with extinction. A sinister politician has used treachery and murder to rise as prime minister of the mighty Federation. Meanwhile, poring through a long-forgotten diary, the young Druid Aphenglow Elessedil has stumbled upon the secret account of an Elven girl’s heartbreak and the shocking truth about the vanished Elfstones. But never has a little knowledge been so very dangerous—as Aphenglow quickly learns when she’s set upon by assassins.
Yet there can be no turning back from the road to which fate has steered her. Whoever captures the Elfstones and their untold powers will surely hold the advantage in the devastating clash to come. But when the Druids mount an expedition to locate the missing stones, they quickly discover there may be even more at stake than they ever expected.

I've been a fan of Brooks' Shannara series since...well, for a really long time (twenty years, at least), and I've really enjoyed them (I'm particularly fond of the Wishsong and the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy). But with the Dark Legacy trilogy, nothing really seems new. The formula I enjoyed in previous books just seems overdone here. The characters have different names but are not that much different from previous ones. The threats are the same, the villains are the same, the evil politicians are the same, the assassins are the same, the Druids are the same. The scenes with the King of the Silver River, the Grimpond, and the shade of Allanon are much the same as all their previous appearances, and at least one of those three seems very shoehorned in, serving little purpose, a cameo for the sake of cameos.I think I would have enjoyed this trilogy a lot better if I had not already read a dozen of the other books in the Shannara series first. The characters are interesting in their own right, and the challenges they face are gripping. I just believe that the grip would have been a lot tighter had Brooks not already told this tale before.

Great brat great grate grate grate trait trait grait this book is is is is is is is is is graet
I think Terry Brooks is an excellent writer. The stoires are long, but they don't seem unnecessarily repetitive unlike some fantasy writers who seem to find it necessary just to fill more pages.
I can say I like any and all of Terry Brooks Shannara Books
Good book
These books continue to deliver a great story and interesting characters.
Great read, love Terry Brooks!
Haven't read it yet because I am rereading the whole series in order. Hopefully it will be good as those before it.
